- Pentagon officials said Ukraine had pulled out Abrams M1A1 battle tanks from the frontline due to the threat posed by Russian drones. The Russian drone warfare, as per US officials, made it too difficult for Ukraine to operate the Abrams without detection or coming under attack.
The US had provided Kyiv with 31 Abrams in January 2023 after an aggressive months-long campaign by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader had then argued that the tanks, which cost about $10 million apiece, were vital to its ability to breach Russian lines.

It was a good tactical move in my opinion as Russia got to see the west's best equipment and its capabilities.
US already mentioned that Abrams was not meant for this war due to logistics, but Germany wanted US to give Abrams to Ukraine for some messed up reason. The tank is the best provided it has the logistical support. Most of the Abrams are abandoned in the war zone and Russian drones destroy them. The special fuel Abrams use is not easy to supply so it is best to pull them back. The tank was never meant for such battles. It is an American tank that needs American logistics to make good use of it.

The Abrams tanks sent to Ukraine don't have the DU armor, but I think that is only on the turret front and maybe the sides. The turret top and hull top armor is thin and vulnerable to the drones as shown by burning Abrams tanks. The "magic armor" would not help.

Himmars was a game-changer for Ukraine. It really allowed Ukraine to punch above its weight class and really roll back some of those Russian advances. But handing the Ukrainians one "wonder weapon" and some old, outdated NATO trash and expecting them to penetrate miles of Russian defenses was just stupid. It's clearly led to high losses in the Ukrainian Army, it was a waste of hardware, it's likely killed some of their best soldiers, and Ukraine has exhausted itself as Russia is putting forth its strength.

Because russia has a factory that can repair tanks then after a days of repair it will be sent back to the front lines, on the ukraine side if tank is unable to move because it was destroyed by a mine it is considered totaled so ukraine will just abandon the tank and NATO will replace a new one, Poland doesn't have the capacity to repair tanks, so the destroyed tank will be sent back to its manufacturer thousand km away to get repaired and its costly to transport it back, ukraine bots so ignorant that russian repaired tank back to frontlines they count this as another tank been destroyed yet its just the same tank that was in the frontlines 2 weeks ago..

Correctly recognized, the damaged Leopard tanks go to Poland or Lithuania for repairs, because Germany itself does not have the capacity to repair additional tanks. There are approximately 1,200 to 1,500 kilometers between the front in eastern Ukraine and the workshops for the German tanks. So these tanks will be down for weeks, if not months. For a Leopard 2A6 tank, the Ukrainians would need two T-72 recovery tanks, because the Leopard tank is 15 tons heavier than the T-72 recovery tank. However, the recovery tanks are hardly available to the Ukrainian army anymore and secondly, the front is advancing so quickly that the Ukrainians can no longer recover the tanks because they have fallen into Russian hands.
They are pulling out the anrams, but are putting back the Bradleys. That makes no sense.

Let's get this straight, lancet cost is 30k, Javelin cost is 200k? They do the same job, or I would argue the lanced does even better, since it has 30 mile range. How's that possible? This sounds just like the pharmaceutical industry, where our pill costs 20 times what the same pill costs in Canada. The Abrams tank is utterly unsuited to non-oil field related battles. 1) It has a gas turbine which has a GIANT heat signature. 2) Modern radar can pick up the trajectory of artillery and warn anyone in the target zone to take cover / run away. It is a very short window, but if you can react fast enough..... 3) Back to that gas turbine and that fact takes a bit of time to start it and get moving vs. diesel ICE tanks you can start in gear and floor it. 4) The Russians have a bounty on them so you're driving a giant target. SO YEAH !! another American foreign policy mega-success.

Abrams M1A1 battle tanks have Gas turbine engines (not Diesel) and so run extremely hot - making them an easy target to spot for ''heat seeking'' overhead surveillance (especially in the cold climate in Ukraine). Once spotted - a Russian killer Drone is dispatched to this exact spot within minutes and the Tank destroyed. You would think that the American Military would have thought of that before sending these very expensive tanks - I mean are they that stupid? My thoughts are that they were only interested in getting the money for the Military Industrial complex. With this battle field flaw, together with limited use time-wise (as they burn fuel at a very high rate, giving them only 8 hours use as against a diesel tank with 24 Hours), makes them useless and the need to get them back out of the battle field necessary - as leaving them is a sure way to getting them easily destroyed.
Imagine losing a $15M hardware to a $500 drone or old t72 tanks. Not worth it...

Ukraine lost this war on day one. They NEVER had a chance in what was obviously a numbers war from the beginning. Even US generals are already admitting that Russia has reconstituted its forces to pre-war levels (the exception being the Black Sea fleet).
